River Road graduate, Jason Mays, has been named Amarillo’s new Fire Chief. Mays was introduced during the City Council meeting Tuesday, April 14th as the city’s 10th Fire Chief, following the recent retirement of former Fire Chief Jeff Greenlee. This appointment comes after serving in the capacity of Deputy Fire Chief of Operations since November 2018.

Jason Mays is an Amarilloan, born and raised, with a wife and four children. Following graduation from River Road, he attended Amarillo College, Columbia Southern University and Waldorf University.

According to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, Jason Daniel Mays holds several master-level certifications including Master Structure Firefighter, Master Aircraft Rescue Firefighter and Master Instructor III. Mays has been with the  Amarillo Fire Department since March 25, 1999. Mays has fulfilled many roles within the department including training captain, training chief, and health and safety chief.

Fire Chief Mays officially began his tenure Wednesday, April 15th. The River Road community congratulates and celebrates Jason Mays. We are proud of his continuing commitment to the safety, protection and well-being of residents in all communities throughout Amarillo.
