Online Instruction Update

October 13, 2020

To the Parents and Guardians of RRISD Students,

The administration has been reviewing student performance and attendance data from the first seven weeks of school. We believe it is in the best interest of ALL River Road ISO students to return to in-person,  on campus instruction as soon as possible. The data revealed that virtual online instruction has not been successful for many of our students, and the added burden placed on our teachers is unsustainable.

Beginning Monday, October 19, 2020, River Road ISD will end online instruction and expect all online students to return to in-person instruction.  Online students currently under quarantine or at home because of COVID-19 like symptoms will continue in their current placement. All other online students will be expected to return to their campuses.

A grace period, ending October 19, 2020, has been established to allow parents of students affected by this decision time to evaluate educational options and determine which is best for them.

The district believes that in-person instruction remains the best method for a child's learning and social emotional growth. We look forward to welcoming all of our River Road Wildcats back to the classroom. Students and staff will still be expected to follow the COVID-19 safety guidelines established in the "Return to School Plan," including wearing masks during the school day and school-sponsored events and activities.

However, should you choose to pursue alternative means of education for your child, we wish everyone the most success.  A partial list of available educational possibilities includes:

  • Come to school for in-person learning
  • Withdraw your child to homeschool
  • Utilize the Texas Virtual Academy or another online school program

As we face continued testing, quarantine, and confirmed cases of COVID-19, River Road ISO will continue to place those who are affected in remote synchronous or asynchronous instruction for the required period of time. During these times, students and parents will be assisted in ensuring appropriate educational resources are provided for every child's continued academic success.

Campus administrators will be contacting all of our virtual learners in the next few days to discuss the steps needed to return your child to River Road ISO campuses on Monday, October 19, 2020.

The River Road ISO and Board of Trustees are committed to our students' and staffs success, and we look forward to the 2020-2021 school year's remainder.
